Generally all Survivor insignia, though for Arenas you could argue the case for Blessed/Stalwart on chest and legs (noobs monkstomp, that extra 10 armour will go a long way).

Then, minor runes in whatever attributes you're using, generally Heal/Prot/Divine, a headpiece for the attribute that'd benefit you the most (Prot is generally more effective at lower attribute levels, a standard WoH hybrid would run a Healing scalp).

Fill up the spare rune slots with Vitae.

Never use Sup runes in PvP. Ever.

what about attunement instead of vitae? So what would be the normal health and energy i suppose to have with the normal set up of sword +5e %20 enchant and shield +30hp -5/30hp.

The sword should be +5e with a +30 health mod for general use, and you only switch to a 20% enchant set for Prots you could do with sticking around - Aegis and probably PS. For spamming RoF, it's not worth it.

As for the shield, get a whole bunch of them, each one +30hp and +10 armour vs Slashing/Fire/Blunt/Lightning/Piercing/Cold/Earth, and switch the shield equipped depending on what's hitting you. I believe my +10 vs Slashing shield takes most of my hits. -5/20% is crap, the damage reduction is puny and inconsistent.

As for normal health/energy in the sword/shield set, uhhm.... over 600 health and 35 energy, iirc

Dont run -5(20%) on a sheild.

Try and have a selection of +10 vs XX in your inventory, and swap to whichever is appropriate to the type of damage you are taking.
My personal default is slashing.
It can help to colour code them too using dyes. This doesnt work on the tactics sheilds as they do not show the dyed colour in inventory but on the paragon sheilds it seems to work fine.

EDITZ too slow alex got there first .. but the dye thing is a good idea

monks are hardly ever at full energy during a fight, so attunment runes are a waste.

you should be running headpiece with whatever build your running's att, plus a minor rune in that headpiece of the same type.

you should have NO sups. excepting a superior vigor.

the rest of your armor should be survivor, or in 4 mans stalwart could be argued, because like the previous poster said, noobs monkstomp.

you'll want to get yourself a set of shields, with hp handles and piercing, blunt, fire, and slashing damage mods. 4 shields in all. since you're just starting out, until you learn when is a good time to swap, i'd start with a -5 while enchanted(if you're running hb, this works well.) shield with an hp handle, then as you notice, oh hey, that fire ele is reallly trying to kill me, you can start swaping. (tbqh i had a hard time remembering to swap at first. ra is greaaat pracitce, as you're gonna get monkstomped. alot.)

the best main hand weapons are things like the endgame wands, the new healing and prot eotn ones are nice, also a one handed weapon with +5 energy or hct 10% chance, and +30hp.

i also have some sort of one handed weapon, when you get better at swapping, with +20% enchants for things like aegis. usually you can get away with putting this on your high energy set weapon. mine is an axe(any 1hander will do here, once again), with +15e/-1 regen and 20% enchants.

usually, you start out a fight in your basic energy set, a shield and wand/one handed weapon.

when you get low or arent getting mashed on, a wand/one hander and a monk offhand (my personal fave is byzzars benediction because its divine linked, and you always have points in divine as a healing/prot monk)

in emergencies you use that high energy set. dont stay too long or you'll really screw your regen up :x

honestly, i<3monking. pm me here on the forums with any questions or whatnot if you feel like it

so a +5e +30hp sword would be the normal set then when i want to cast enchantments I swap to the +5e %20 enchant? also say if im running a build a all prot build I would have headpice to prot with a minor prot rune then the rest armor with survivor and vitae? sry to ask so many questions.

sounds like you've got the idea. dont go crazy trying to switch to the enchant weapon to cast things like rof. aegis is really the only thing i use that for...and i havent run aegis in awhile.

One possible weapon for enchantment cast efficiency set is Adept Prot Staff of Enchaning:

Head: HCT 20%
HSR 20% (default)
Inscription: "Aptitude not Attitude" HCT 20%
Wrapping: Enchantment 20%

That gives you HCT: 36%, HSR: 20%.

Stay on your defense set and swap to this for casting enchantments.

I don't mean to sound too blunt, but please use your head. They've already told you all of the runes you need.

That's generally how I set up my PvP monks. Ignore Smite Hex, I don't know why it's there instead of Holy Veil.

If I'm not running mending touch or something like that in the lower arenas, I normally run a Recovery rune against daze along with Soundness of mind inscription on a shield. Add in your other assortment of shields and you are set.
